To preserve family wealth
for people interested in preserving their wealth for generations, the "2 per cent rule" – along with a 12 per cent cash allocation – offers the ability to weather almost any storm. It also precludes untimely liquidations.
As a first-order approximation during a PD, I look at a member's living expenses. If they're more than 2 per cent of their net worth, that's worthy of a discussion. Any wealth preserver who's living above 2 per cent of their net worth is closer to being in a stressed position. Anyone living on less than 2 per cent is in a less stressed position.
